Torrington- Wilbert H. Boles, Jr. (Wibo), 72, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of 34 years of Pamela P. (Godley) Boles.
Wilbert was born in Waterbury on January 26, 1950, son of the late Wilbert H. Boles, Sr., and Ernestine (Russell) Boles, and had been a Torrington resident for the past 35 years. He was employed as a direct care professional with LARC for over 10 years. Mr. Boles was the President of the Brotherhood of Diversity, where he helped organize the annual father and son tournament. He was the Assistant District Commissioner for the Western District of Connecticut Rivers Council, Boy Scouts of America, and a volunteer basketball coach for the Elks League. Wilbert volunteered with the Torrington Emergency Response Team and the Community Soup Kitchen, where he co-founded Christmas Soup. He co-hosted local artist shows including the Open Mic at Artwell Gallery and deeply cared about his community. Wilbert was passionate about NY sports and enjoyed watching the Knicks, Giants, and Mets. In addition to his sports teams, his favorite joy was singing, as he was in numerous bands over the years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Pamela, include three sons, Wilbert H. Boles, III, of FL, Elijah H. Boles and his wife, Kara, of Watertown, and Tremain A. Boles of New Haven; two grandchildren, Avalynn Boles and Mila Boles; four brothers, Jesse Boles, Bruce Boles, and Brian Boles, all of Meriden, and Anthony Boles and his wife, Veronica, of Waterbury; two sisters, Doreen Ellison of Meriden and Karen Boles of Waterbury; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wilbert was predeceased by five siblings, Sidney Boles, Harry Boles, Sally Mae Brown, Patricia Plourde, and Diane Boles.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 11:00a.m. at Workman Memorial AME Zion Church, 60 Brightwood Ave., Torrington, with Pastor Kevin Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Tuesday, August 30, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington.
