William H. Capell, Jr.

New Hartford- William H. Capell, Jr., 89, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Andrea (Thuillard) Capell.

          Mr. Capell was born in Torrington on May 6, 1935, son of the late William H. Capell, Sr., and Esther E. (Bertrand) Capell, and had been a lifelong Torrington-New Hartford resident. He was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict Era Veteran and retired Lineman with SNET, retiring with 28 years of service. Mr. Capell was a member of the United Congregational Church, Torrington, the 4-H, and Grange. He had a great love for the outdoors, especially farming, gardening, tool collecting, traveling, he particularly enjoyed camping in the Pennsylvania Dutch area amongst the Amish farms and hunting with family in Sundown, NY. His Scottish Highlander Cows were a source of great enjoyment for both his family and neighbors.

          Survivors, in addition to his wife, Andrea, include a son, Mark W. Capell and his wife, Christina, of New Hartford; two grandchildren, Connor Capell and Laura Capell; a brother, Robert Capell and his wife, Donna, of Terryville; three sisters, Jacqueline Howe of Harwinton, Joyce Weingart of Torrington, Diana Capell and her partner, Ron Naylor, of New Hartford; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Capell; many nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Mr. Capell was predeceased by his brother, Frederick Capell.

          Services will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11:00a.m. at United Congregational Church Torrington, 1662 Torringford St., Torrington. Burial will follow in Torringford Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:00a.m. directly at Church. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
