William A. Wellnitz

Torrington- William A. Wellnitz, 78, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington.

        Bill was born in Torrington on February 4, 1945 and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Era Veteran. Bill lived all of his life for the outdoors and nature. Birds surrounded Bill and his home and he knew each one personally. He would feed the birds before feeding himself.  Bill was a stunning artist painting the outdoor array of covered bridges, barns and broken fences that captured the nature of Ct. His knowledge of geology and his love of nature's artistry in the many rocks and specimens he collected were all around his home.

        Survivors include his half-brother Richard Holtman, friends from Texas to Minnesota and all his CT friends, too many to list from his life and church. He will be missed but always remembered as our uniquely artistic and generous friend.

        Services will be held on a date and time to be announced. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
