Torrington- Helen J. (Koczur) Ohotnicky, 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Ohotnicky.

Helen was born in Torrington on May 22, 1918, daughter of the late John and Mary Ann (Manyiak) Koczur. She spent her entire working career at the Torrington Company as the head inspector of the needle division, retiring with over 42 years of service. Helen enjoyed volunteering and helping others. She spent several years as the President of the Altar Society for Sacred Heart Church, was a member of the Council of Catholic Women, Sullivan Senior Center, the Heritage Land Preservation Trust Inc., the Charlotte Hungerford Auxiliary, and spent over 25 years volunteering as a receptionist at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital's information desk.

Besides volunteering, Helen was a true sports enthusiast, following the UConn men's and women's basketball teams, the PGA tour, and was a diehard N.Y. Yankees fan. She was also an artist and was often chosen as artist of the month at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She also enjoyed traveling worldwide during her retirement years.

Survivors include a brother, Edward Koczur of Kingston, Washington, several nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was predeceased by 5 sisters, Anna Mancini, Mary Ann Kimberly, Katherine Gioia, Sophie Montagna, and Elizabeth "Betty" Spiegelhalter.

 

Service Arrangements

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 11:30a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington to Sacred Heart Church, 116 Grove St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00p.m. Burial will follow in New St. Francis Cemetery, Torrington. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday morning from 10:00a.m. to 11:30a.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.

Memorial Contributions

At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DaVita Torrington Dialysis, 780 Litchfield St., Suite 100, Torrington, CT 06790. The Drs. and staff had been like a second family to her for several years.
